High-profile forensic psychiatrist Dr Steven Pitt has been murdered leaving his office in Arizona, local police report.
Dr Pitt, 59, consulted on high-profile crimes, including the 1996 JonBenet Ramsey murder case and Columbine school massacre, NBC reports.
His death was the first in a string of killings by 56-year-old Dwight Lamon Jones, who shot six people in the Phoenix, Arizona area before killing himself in his hotel room on Monday, The New York Post reports.
All of Jones’ victims were connected to his divorce case, The Post reports, including two paralegals who worked for the law firm that represented his ex-wife and a divorce counsellor.
Dr Pitt had evaluated Jones’ mental health and testified that he had anxiety and mood disorders, as well as symptoms of a paranoid personality, in 2010.
