On April 9, the royal family confirmed the passing of Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, Queen Elizabeth’s husband of 74 years.
The announcement came via an official statement, which read: “It is with deep sorrow that Her Majesty The Queen has announced the death of her beloved husband, His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.”
The statement added HRH passed away “peacefully this morning at Windsor Castle.”
Philip is survived by his children, Charles, Anne, Andrew and Edward, and their families, including his great-grandchildren, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, Prince Louis and Savannah and Isla Phillips, as well as Princess Eugenie’s son August, and Mia, Lena and Lucas Tindall, and Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s son Archie Harrison and their soon-to-arrive second child.

Just as the country begins to emerge from a terrible year, comes the tragic news that HRH Prince Philip has died. War hero, brilliant consort to the Queen – a man of humour and intelligence. It is a sad day for the whole nation. My thoughts & prayers are with HM Queen & family.

Thinking of Her Majesty the Queen and the Royal Family at this time x
I once had the huge honour and privilege of being Prince Philip’s Press Secretary – he was an extraordinary person who dedicated his life to Queen and Country. I know his shining legacy will live on. My prayers and thoughts are with The Queen today and always.

Of all the things I admired about #QueenElizabethII it was her love story with #PrincePhilip it lasted 74 years of marriage, plus a long courtship during WWII before. They created a powerful legacy: 4 children. 8 grandchildren. 10 great grandchildren. God bless @RoyalFamily pic.twitter.com/x5DMCZkGIO

I have written about Prince Philip quite a lot over the years. Whatever anyone thought of him, he was an extraordinary character & I so feel for The Queen. 73 years of marriage & 99 years of life is quite an innings. This is him, c.1927 from Charlotte Zeepvat coll @Mary_Evans pic.twitter.com/bSnw3pYXfH

Rest in peace pic.twitter.com/CZCDwmiiOo
What a life Prince Philip led, utterly devoted to public service and to the Queen, her husband, her best friend, and her rock throughout the years. May he rest in peace, and may Her Majesty find comfort in the love and prayers that millions around the world will send her today.
