The royal wedding is fast approaching! In the lead-up to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s May 19th nuptials we’re learning more about their special day.
The couple has asked their wedding guests to make a charitable donation in place of gifts but it’s likely Harry’s grandmother Queen Elizabeth II will commemorate the union with a traditional present, their first home.
For now, Harry and Meghan have been setting up their home in Nottingham Cottage in the grounds of Kensington Palace, but it wouldn’t be surprising if the Queen continued her tradition of allotting one of her properties to her family members.
The monarch presented Prince Harry and Kate Middleton the with their first home too, following their wedding in 2011. “The Queen has a habit of giving property,” former royal editor and Prince Harry biographer Duncan Larcombe told Cosmopolitan UK. “She gave Prince Andrew Sunninghill Park, Prince Charles was given Birkhall and William and Kate were gifted Anmer Hall. So there’s every chance that Harry and Meghan might find themselves the proud owners of a nice property outside of London.”
The most likely option for Harry and Meghan’s new dwelling is York Cottage in Sandringham, according to Larcombe. The property is steeped in history and once belonged to Elizabeth’s parents King George V and Queen Mary. It would also allow Harry and Meghan to be close to William and Kate, who use Anmer Hall as their private country retreat.
