The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have officially split from Kate Middleton and Prince William to start their own royal household. The soon-to-be royal parents have moved out of Kensington Palace in favour of Windsor’s Frogmore cottage.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle took the split one step further, announcing the launch of their own Instagram account (a very serious split in millennial terms).
“Welcome to our official Instagram,” Harry and Meghan posted as their first snap, alongside a gallery of images showing their past journey. “We look forward to sharing the work that drives us, the causes we support, important announcements, and the opportunity to shine a light on key issues. We thank you for your support and welcome you to @sussexroyal. – Harry & Meghan”
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s new social media account broke the record for the fastest time to gain one million followers on Instagram, Guinness World Records says.
The account @sussexroyal, set up on Tuesday, reached the one million milestone in just five hours and 45 minutes. It now has more than 2.5 million followers

It seems like there are no hard feelings however, with Kensington Palace welcoming the new Sussex Royal account to social media.
“Welcome to Instagram, SussexRoyal,’ the official Kensington Palace account posted. ‘Follow for more on the work of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex”.
This comes after the news that at one point Prince Harry and Meghan Markle wanted to be “entirely independent” from Buckingham Palace in general – something that was reportedly vetoed by the Queen.
