Now that the dust has somewhat settled following Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s ground-breaking decision to step back as senior members of the royal family, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have begun building a new and normal life in Canada.

The royals have taken a complete step back from the public eye in recent weeks – save for a few surprise appearances by Meghan and some paparazzi shots of the duchess on a hike with baby Archie and her two dogs. According to a friend close to the couple, their new “low profile” lifestyle is exactly what Harry and Meghan were longing for.

“This decision [to leave] had been weighing on them for a long time, and they are relieved to have it done,” the source revealed to People.

“A weight has been lifted off their shoulders.”

So, what are the duke and duchess doing with their lives instead? Since the announcement, Meghan and Harry have continued to reside at the same waterfront mansion on Vancouver Island where they spent the holiday season.

Reportedly, they’ve been using their newfound freedom to relish in the simple luxuries of married life – going for walks, taking yoga lessons, making homecooked meals and of course, spending quality time with baby Archie and their two dogs.

“They both love to be outside and have been loving it there,” the friend continued.

“When they’re not doing yoga or eating in, Harry will pick up sandwiches at a local spot, and Meghan walks her beloved rescue beagle Guy and the couple’s adopted Labrador.

“They are enjoying living a quiet life. They go for long walks, they do yoga, and Meghan cooks. They are real homebodies who love to chill out with Archie and the dogs.”

Although the couple is certainly enjoying the downtime, their agreement with the royal family made it clear that they don’t plan on staying out of the spotlight forever. In conjunction with the announcement, the Sussex’s revealed that they would be establishing a new charity, separate to the one they previously shared with Will and Kate.

It’s still unclear what a timeline might look like for the new organisation, but from what we now know, it doesn’t seem as though the duke and duchess will be rushing into things anytime soon.
