Parasite is the movie on everyone’s lips at the moment. It absolutely killed it at the Oscars, taking home Best Picture (it’s the first non-English film to ever win this prestigious award), Best Director, Best Foreign Language Film and Best Original Screenplay. It has also won a Golden Globe, a Screen Actors Guild Award, two BAFTAs…the list goes on.

Needless to say, the world is obsessed and we want more. And HBO is giving it to us. They’ve signed on for a TV adaptation of the Korean comedy-thriller.
Parasite’s Bong Joon Ho will executive produce the upcoming series alongside Succession’s Adam McKay. The TV adaptation will dive deeper into the characters and issues of class wars that were explored in the film. “With the TV series for Parasite, I think we’ll be able to create a high-quality, expanded film,” Bong told The Hollywood Reporter.
“There were so many stories that I thought of that could happen in between the sequences you see in the film, and some background stories for each character,” he added.
“I had all these key ideas accumulated from when I started writing the script,” Bong explained to TheWrap. “I just couldn’t include all those ideas in the two-hour running time of the film, so they’re all stored in my iPad and my goal with this limited series is to create a six-hour-long film.”
Bong hinted at one of the potential storylines: “When the original housekeeper, Mun Gwang (Lee Jung Eun), comes back in the late night, something happened to her face. Even her husband asked about it, but she never answered. I know why she had the bruises on her face…. I have all these hidden stories that I have stored.”
While the series is only in its early stages of planning, there are already rumours circulating that Mark Ruffalo is being considered for a role. When asked about it by TMZ, Ruffalo said: “I’d be honored to be able to play something.”
The Parasite film revolves around a poor family who con a wealthy family into giving them jobs by posing as unrelated, highly qualified help. But their deceit eventually spirals out of control.
It’s undetermined yet if the HBO series will be in English or Korean.
