How can I watch the Oscars 2020 in Australia?
Every year, awards season sees cinema’s buzziest names flex their sartorial muscles at a series of red carpet stints ahead of the grand Oscars finale.
The most star-studded gathering in A-list history, guests are sure to bring their fashion know-how with the likes of Florence Pugh, Margot Robbie and Scarlett Johansson set to grace the stage.
For those of you eager to see which famous faces wear what, E! Countdown to the Red Carpet: Oscars 2020 will kickstart from 5am (AEDT). The following live red carpet stream will commence at 8am (AEDT).
Australian breakfast show Sunrise will also broadcast live from the red carpet so you can get up to date with the fashion proceedings with your morning coffee.
If you’re then wanting to see who takes home a coveted gong this year, Seven will be showcasing the ceremony live from 12pm with a primetime repeat in the evening at 7.30pm (AEDT).
Who will perform at the Oscars 2020?
Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper’s tear-jerking performance will prove difficult to beat but this year, a whole host of big names will serenade audiences both in the auditorium and at home.
Elton John is due to perform ‘(I’m Gonna) Love Me Again’ from 2019 biopic Rocketman while Cynthia Erivo will sing ‘Stand Up’ from Harriet.
Further performances will be announced in the run-up to the ceremony.
Who will host the Oscars 2020?
In continuation from 2018 when the ceremony was held without a host for the first time in 30 years, the Academy Awards 2020 has also eschewed the tradition.
After two years with Jimmy Kimmel at the helm, Kevin Hart was chosen to host the bash in 2018. But the move was met with backlash after previous homophobic comments made by the US comedian resurfaced.
Three days after the announcement, he stepped down and issued a formal apology. In a quick turnaround, Tina Fey, Maya Rudolph and Amy Poehler kickstarted proceedings and the show hasn’t looked back since.
This year, a number of stars will dish out awards with Timothée Chalamet, Mindy Kaling and Will Ferrell among the names confirmed so far.
Who has been nominated ahead of the Oscars 2020?
Awards season has been a trial-run for some of the industry’s biggest names with The Marriage Story‘s lead stars, Scarlett Johansson and Adam Driver, continuing to dominate the nominations list.
Leonardo DiCaprio (Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood) is up for Best Actor in a Leading Role alongside Joaquin Phoenix (Joker), Antonio Banderas, (Pain and Glory) and Jonathan Pryce (The Two Popes).
Over in the women’s category, Johansson is joined by Cynthia Erivo, (Harriet), Saoirse Ronan, (Little Women), Charlize Theron, (Bombshell) and Renée Zellweger (Judy).
Despite the indisputable talent from some of the industry’s female heavyweights, filmmakers were overlooked once again with Greta Gerwig deserving of greater recognition for her work on Little Women.

Kobe Bryant will be honoured at the 2020 Oscars
The ceremony will reportedly honour Kobe Bryant who passed away on January 26 in a helicopter crash alongside his daughter, Gianna, and seven others.
The late basketball icon famously won an Oscar for best animated short film in 2018 for Dear Basketball, an adaptation from a poem he published in 2015 on his retirement from the sport.
It is not yet known how the A-list bash will pay tribute to the star. Every year, the ceremony traditionally holds an In Memoriam section for prominent industry figures who have died in the previous year though there may also be a standalone segment for Bryant.
