Well, now we finally know! To finish the year off, Netflix has released its round-up of what shows and movies its users have watched the most in 2019. Yes, that’s right, now you can finally confirm whether people are as obsessed with true crime documentaries as you are (the answer is yes).
Before we go into details, we should preface this by saying that Netflix hasn’t measured the popularity of the programs by how many people watched the content in full, but rather the number of accounts that watched at least two minutes of the titles in the first 28 days following their release dates.
Which is why Jennifer Aniston, came out on top for her Agatha Christie-style comedy, Murder Mystery. The film, which she stars in with co-star Adam Sandler was watched by 30,869,863 accounts in the first three days of its release – making it Netflix’s biggest opening weekend ever.
Coming in second and third place on the most popular releases list was hit sci-fi series, Stranger Things 3 and Ryan Reynolds action flick 6 Underground. Disney’s The Incredibles 2 was the first non-Netflix original title on the list at fourth place, followed closely with Martin Scorsese’s The Irishman.
New fantasy series The Witcher, which only launched on December 26, Triple Frontier, Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile, The Umbrella Academy and The Highwaymen rounded out the rest of the top 10.
