She’s been propelled into the spotlight thanks to one of the most shocking election wins in history.
But who is Melanie Trump?
We’re so glad you asked.
Here are five things you may not know about the would-be First Lady, plus a clip of *that* supposedly plagiarised speech.
She grew up under communist rule
Melania was born and raised during the years of the Communist Dictator Tito who ruled the former Yugoslavia. Her parents now split their time between what is now Slovenia and New York.
She speaks five languages
Melania could tell you how much she loves the Donald in Slovenian, English, French, Serbian and German. Tres romantic.
She would be the first First Lady to have ever appeared nude for a magazine
In 2000, the then Melania Knauss stripped off to pose in the nude for GQ. One of the shots featured her onboard Trump’s jet, handcuffed to a briefcase. “We pushed the envelope a little,” editor Dylan Jones is reported to have said of the shoot. “We were surprised she said yes.”
She wishes Trump would act more “presidential”
During the election campaign Trump told a crowd of supporters that both Melania and his eldest daughter, Ivanka thought he needed to change his image. “My wife and my daughter said to me, ‘Act presidential! Act presidential!'” he said.
She played hard to get when she met Donald
When the pair were first introduced at a fashion Week party in 1998 the businessman was dating another woman. When he asked Melania for her number, she turned the tables and instead asked him for his digits. (She wanted to see if he would give her his personal or business numbers reportedly.) Instead, he gave her all of his numbers. She finally called him after returning from a shoot in the Caribbean a little later. (Fun fact: Donald would propose six years later at the 2004 on the night of the Costume Institute Gala).
Her fashion choices have been… perplexing
Most First Ladies (or would-be First Ladies) hit the campaign trail wearing US designers with patriotic zeal. Not Melania. Instead Mrs Trump has worn designers such as Roksanda Illinic (who is Serbian) and Gucci (Italian). To really keep fashion commentators guessing she’s also made several sartorial choices that have either been amusingly accidental or actually, properly, evilly brilliant. Case in point: the pussy-bow blouse she wore directly after the news of the famous “pussy-grabbing” incident broke, and the white Ralph Lauren pantsuit she wore the day Trump claimed victory over Hillary Clinton (whose supporters wore white pantsuits to the polls).
Her Twitter account is nothing short of brilliant
As in it’s filled with Chanel, chandeliers and country estates. Yep, the incoming First Lady is just like us. Not.
