Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s decision to step down from their roles as ‘senior’ members of the royal family was a lot to take in when they made the announcement over two weeks ago. No doubt, it was even tougher for the rest of the royal family to come to terms with.

While not particularly pleased with the situation, the Queen has said she is “entirely supportive of Harry and Meghan’s desire to create a new life as a young family”.
Prince William expressed his disappointment that his younger brother is no longer part of the “team” a few days after the announcement, but according to a senior royal source, the brothers have had a heart-to-heart and are on much better terms now. “They decided to cut out all the toxic people stirring around them to deal with each other man-to-man as brothers,” said the insider. “William and Harry have spent time together privately away from the official Sandringham Summit working on their relationship and discussing their future. It has been groundbreaking in terms of saving their bond as brothers and has been totally driven by them.”
Unfortunately the same can’t be said for the bond between sisters-in-law Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle. “Kate and Meghan have not spoken since [the royal exit] happened,” a source told Us Weekly.
Things are also a little icy between Harry and his father Prince Charles. An insider told The Sun, “It’s fair to say that the past week has brought William and Harry back together, but the relationship with Charles and Camilla is far more complicated and complex. There remains a real lack of trust there, and it’s going to take some time to resolve.”
While their decision may have caused family drama, Harry and Meghan don’t appear to have any regrets about stepping down. “Meghan feels free. She has never been happier,” a source shared with The Sun. “She’s happy to be out of London. She was surprised at how quickly everything happened.”
Prince Harry addressed the matter during a speech at a London charity event on Sunday 19 January.
“It brings me great sadness that it has come to this. The decision that I have made for my wife and I to step back, is not one I made lightly. It was so many months of talks after so many years of challenges. And I know I haven’t always gotten it right, but as far as this goes, there really was no other option. What I want to make clear is we’re not walking away, and we certainly aren’t walking away from you.”
