Meghan Markle Hired Princess Diana’s Former Lawyer In Her Tabloid Lawsuit

The duchess's latest hire has previously represented a slew of high-profile British clients

Meghan Markle is hiring someone with royal experience for her tabloid lawsuit. David Sherborne, Princess Diana’s former lawyer, is reportedly representing the Duchess of Sussex in her suit associated Newspapers (owner of the Daily Mail and its vertical, Mail on Sunday) over misuse of private information, breach of data protection and infringement of copyright action.

In addition to having represented Princess Diana, he has also represented Sir Paul McCartney, Kate Moss, and Sir Elton John, amongst others, and has been responsible for several privacy cases, including other suits against Associated Newspapers.

Last week, court documents revealed that the Duchess of Sussex accused The Mail on Sunday of humiliating her father, Thomas Markle. The pre-trial hearing was heard remotely before a virtual court hearing in London via video link amid the coronavirus pandemic.

“Following this public shaming by the [Mail on Sunday], Mr Markle suffered cardiac problems on 14 May, an event which [Meghan] only discovered because her father issued a public statement to that effect through the American tabloid website [TMZ],” Sherborne reportedly wrote. “Even after the wedding, and her father’s failure to attend as a result of his shaming, the [Mail on Sunday] continued to publish further articles, stirring up issues between [Meghan] and her father.”

The Duchess of Sussex’s lawsuit involves a private letter published in by the Daily Mail, which she wrote to her father shortly after her 2018 wedding. She and her father have reportedly not spoken since the wedding.
