Hands softly clasped together is a signature look for Duchess of Sussex Meghan Markle. While it’s likely she was ‘trained’ to stand that way (Meghan reportedly took ‘Duchess lessons’ after she and Harry got married), body language expert Blanca Cobb thinks there’s another reason.
Regularly seen with her hands interlocked across her ribs and her elbows out, she always looks poised yet approachable.
“What happens when you stand a lot? You have a go-to move, something that makes you feel comfortable, and it becomes a habit,” Cobb told Cosmopolitan.
“For Meghan, having that go-to move serves a couple of purposes. It’s almost like an invisible shield—like a barrier to protect herself. Her hands are clasped to give herself some more comfort and certainty when she’s in the spotlight.”
Fellow Duchess Kate Middleton has a similar stance, however, she tends to hold her hands lower down in a more relaxed pose, often choosing to carry a clutch with her, which acts as a style security blanket.
