Since leaving behind their royal duties and relocating to the states, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have been actively encouraging people to vote in this yearโs U.S. election.
In a landmark chat with feminist icon Gloria Steinem back in August (in her backyard no less), Markle urged for young people to vote and discussed the prolific issue of voter suppression.
And now Steinem has revealed that both her and the Duchess of Sussex have been cold-calling members of the public to talk to them about the upcoming presidential election.
Talking to Access Hollywood, Steinem explained that she and Markle wrapped up their chat by picking up the phone and calling people.
โThe first thing we didโฆ the reason why she came to see me wasโฆ we sat at the dining room table where I am right now and cold-called voters and said โHello, Iโm Megโ and โHello, Iโm Gloriaโฆ are you going vote?โ That was her initiative.โ

Steinem also praised Markle for how sheโs been dealing with her public scrutiny.
โShe has a stereotype hanging over her head of this โprincessโ,โ she said.
โI think there was a book once called A Princess Ate My Daughter. The whole idea of โprincessโ is a problem. We had a whole revolution to get rid of royalty. Meg is herself, smart, authentic, funny [and] political.โ
Markle has been passionately calling upon non-voters to get involved ever since returning to the U.S., and even expressed her own excitement for the 2020 presidential race during a video for the When We All Vote initiative, where she teamed up with Michelle Obama.
โWhen I think about voting and why this is so exceptionally importance for all of us, I would frame it as: We vote to honour those who came before us and to protect those who will come after us because thatโs what community is all about and thatโs specifically what this election is all about,โ she said.
