Overnight, Kensington Palace announced that Prince Harry is engaged to Meghan Markle.
Soon after the exciting news, the happy couple posed for photos, revealing Meghan’s stunning engagement ring.
The gorgeous ring is made from three main stones, the centre of which is a cushion-cut diamond from Botswana, a place “close to the hearts” of both Meghan and Harry and where they first holidayed together.
The huge centre-stone is flanked by two side-stones, both round-cut and taken from the personal collection of Harry’s late mother, Diana, Princess of Wales.
Set on a gold band, the ring was made by the Queen’s official court jeweller Cleave and Company, who consulted with Harry on the ring. The prince was involved in the entire design process.
Later, the pair revealed exactly how Harry popped the question while sitting down for an interview with BBC.
“It happened a few weeks ago, earlier this month, here at our cottage; just a standard typical night for us. Roasting a chicken … trying to roast a chicken,” Harry joked.
“She didn’t even let me finish, she said, ‘Can I say yes? Can I say yes?’” he explained. “And then were was hugs and I had the ring in my finger and I was like, ‘Can I—can I give you the ring?’ She goes, ‘Oh yes, the ring.’”
“It was a really nice moment, it was just the two of us and I think managed to catch her by surprise as well,” Harry said.
“Yes, it was just a cozy night … I could barely let you finish proposing,” Markle replied. “Just an amazing surprise. It was so sweet and natural and very romantic. He got on one knee.”
