Meghan Markle To Narrate Disney Movie In First Post-Royal Job

Profits will go towards helping endangered elephants

Now that Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have announced their decision to “step back” from royal duties, they’re free to explore other job opportunities. For Meghan, that includes returning to her old acting roots.

The Duchess of Sussex has wasted no time in doing just that and has signed a deal with Disney to benefit wildlife charity Elephants Without Borders.

The official Disney Nature Twitter account announced the exciting news alongside a trailer of the forthcoming short film which is set to grace our screens on April 3.

Elephants will follow the story of a family of elephants who endure a 1,000 mile journey across Kalahari Desert in Africa.

As the trio search for green space to roam, they come under a number of threats on the way – a plot designed to shine light on the real-life issues faced by endangered animals across the globe.

Though Meghan is not the only star to take on the project, as award-winning actress, Natalie Portman, will also get behind the mic in a similar movie. 

The move to work with Disney is just another step in Harry and Meghan’s bid to separate their charity work from that of Prince William and Kate Middleton.

In June 2019, they first filed to register a trademark for their own foundation. The filing was officially published at the end of December, signifying that the duke and duchess, who can now be found at their website here, are pulling away from the charitable work of William and Kate.

The Sussexes will formally step down from their royal roles on March 31.

They have not been shy in publicly declaring their love of elephants since tying the knot.

On August 12, the duo helped mark World Elephant Day by sharing photographs from their private trip to Botswana in 2017 on Instagram.

During their break from the spotlight, the couple assisted Dr Mike Chase of Elephants Without Borders in helping with conversation efforts.
