Following on from the countless women who have spoken out about being harassed or assaulted by Harvey Weinstein (Rose McGowan, Gwyneth Paltrow, Angelina Jolie and Cara Delevigne to name a few), a new social media campaign has gained incredible momentum that shows how pervasive sexual abuse against women continues to be.
Inspired by a friend, actress Alyssa Milano has encouraged women to share their experiences of sexual harassment and assault with the hashtag #MeToo.
โIf youโve been sexually harassed or assaulted write โme tooโ as a reply to this tweet,โ she begun.
Her proposition aimed to give people โa sense of the magnitude of the problem,โ as her friend put it.

Writer Alexis Benveniste reminded Twitter users that just because a woman โdidnโt post #MeToo, it doesnโt mean she wasnโt sexually assaulted or harassedโ. She added: โSurvivors donโt owe you their storyโ.
Meanwhile, comedian Aparna Nancherla shared her hope that the dialogue soon shifts from #MeToo to โI believe you.โ
We do too.
