Actress Michelle Williams and director Thomas Kail are officially husband and wife. After working together on the FX miniseries, Fosse/Verdon, which won Williams a Golden Globe earlier this year, the couple surprised the world with news of their engagement and pregnancy in December 2019.
Now, the famous Hollywood couple has hit us with another surprise! According to Us Weekly, the award-winning actress and Hamilton director got married in a secret ceremony, and rumours of their nuptials were sparked after both Kail and Williams were captured earlier this week by the Daily Mail wearing wedding bands in Brooklyn. Reportedly, the couple were aiming to get married before Williams gave birth.
This isn’t the first time the Dawson’s Creek alum has wed in secret. In 2018, Williams revealed in a profile for Vanity Fair’s September issue that she had secretly married her then-husband, Indie musician Phil Elverum. However, the couple called it quits in April 2019 after less than a year of marriage.
Williams and Kail made their first red carpet debut at the Golden Globes earlier this year just a week after we learnt they were expecting. Although it’s almost certain that the couples love blossomed during their time working together, a People source says that William’s 14-year-old daughter, Matilda (who she shared with the late actor Heath Ledger) “played matchmaker” between the pair.
If you needed any more confirmation that the pair were head-over-heels in love, Williams acknowledged her now-husband and her beloved daughter during an extremely sentimental acceptance speech for best female actor at this year’s Screen Actors Guild Awards.
“Tom, I share this with you. Matilda, it is one thing to be completely honest as an actor, it is another to be completely honest as a human being,” said the actress. “That is just who you are and how you live. You teach me by being you. I love you and I am coming home.”
