When photos first leaked of homegrown icon Margot Robbie starring in Greta Gerwig’s feminist adaption of Barbie, the world was understandably obsessed. The hair, the voice, the traffic-stopping pink outfits — it was complete bliss.
Robbie truly encapsulates the essence of Barbie in every way imaginable, and for any naysayers who had their doubts about the actress’ potential to pull the role off, they were left eating their hats.
But, while the question of whether or not she was born to play the role is no longer contentious, the question of how much she got paid for it was. People love to speculate on how much (or how little) Hollywood heavyweights are offered to appear in a big blockbuster, and Robbie’s salary might just shock you.
As reported by Variety, the Australian actress was paid USD$12.5million (AUD$18.1million) for the flick, making her the highest paid female actress in Hollywood.
Back in 2020, Robbie was paid USD$10million (AUD$14.6million) to star in Birds Of Pray, with her latest pay check exceeding this by quite a bit.
Gosling reportedly pocketed the same salary as Robbie, with the pair tying for 16th place on Variety’s newest list of Hollywood’s top earners.
The news comes mere days after production wrapped on the Barbie movie, with Robbie hoping it inspires ‘thoughtful conversation’ among viewers, teasing that it’s likely not what anyone is expecting, either.
The move is set to explore the life of a doll who is ousted from toy society for not being perfect enough’, per Vulture.
By the end of the film, she comes to the realisation that what’s on the inside is more important than her appearance.
Barbie is slated for a July 2023 release.
