Australian actor and author Magda Szubanski teared up on the Today Show this morning while talking about the upcoming postal survey on same-sex marriage.
Australians only have until this Thursday the 24th of August to ensure theyโre enrolled to vote and that their postal address is correct to have a say in marriage equality.
When asked about the โyesโ and โnoโ campaigns, Szubanski got emotional, questioning why there was even a postal vote taking place.
โI think about my childhood and the vilification and the disgust that I was on the receiving end of and all I wanted to do was bring joy,โ she told host Karl Stefanovic.
โI barely made it through my childhood,โ she continued. โI donโt want that to happen to any of these kids, and the fact that there are so many wrongs in the world that are so complicated and canโt be made right, this is a wrong that can be made right so simply if it had been passed in Parliament.โ
โYou canโt have a nation in which a certain percentage are not given equality under the law,โ Magda said when asked why the issue made her so upset.
โNow, in terms of the taxes they want to get us from itโs absolutely equal, but in terms of our rights itโs not.โ
โThey will send our children to war, they will kill our children without consulting us, [yet] they wonโt protect us.โ
โTony Abbott goes on and on about the children, he has said very little, the silence is deafening, when it comes to sexual abuse, thatโs a double standard.โ
