While many of us have been waiting in anticipation for what is possibly one of the most exciting reboots of 2020, it seems as though we may have to wait even longer to be reuniting with the Lizzie McGuire cast, and Hilary Duff has just revealed why.

Earlier this week, it was revealed that another Disney+ series, Love, Simon TV adaptation Love, Victor, was moving to Hulu due to “adult themes” that Disney+ execs allegedly deemed inappropriate for a family-centred audience.
After it was announced, Hilary Duff took to her Instagram stories to share a screenshot of the shock-news, circling the headline of the article writing “Sounds familiar..”
Last month, a Disney spokesperson announced that after filming two episodes of the series, they’d decided to “move in a different creative direction” and put “a new lens on the show.”
It makes us wonder whether Duff’s comment throwing shade at the streaming platform is a hint that the Lizzie McGuire reboot might also be searching for a new home. Or perhaps the show has also been criticised for having too many ‘adult themes’?
Although there is one positive we can hold on to. After long periods of speculation, Hilary Duff, who is returning to the titular role of Lizzie McGuire, made the long-awaited announcement that actor Adam Lamberg (Gordo, to you and I) is officially joining the Lizzie McGuire reboot.
Alongside a photograph of the duo reunited almost 15 years after the show came to an end, the actress wrote: “I feels so basic saying something that’s been shouted at me almost my whole life buuuut… hey now, hey now.”
Understandably, the snap soon garnered over one million likes within a mere two hours as fans took to the post to express their excitement.
“This IS what dreams are made of,” one social media user commented – a joke that will never get old, may we add.

“You made my tween years better and now that I’m rewatching Lizzie McGuire you’re making my adult years better, a second added.
A third simply wrote: “(Internet breaks).”
“Gordo was an essential piece of the puzzle to what made the original Lizzie McGuire so authentic and beloved,” Duff announced in a statement. “I couldn’t imagine the series without him. I can’t wait for fans to see what he’s up to 15 years later and how he fits into Lizzie’s adult world.”
Gordo famously played thirteen-year-old Lizzie’s are-they-aren’t-they love interest in the cult Disney series, as they navigated the highs and lows of school together.
The reboot will pick up with Lizzie landing a covetable job as an apprentice to an interior designer in New York.
But just like the rest of the millennial circuit, she’s craving change. Yep, it seems Lizzie’s going through a quarter-life crisis. With help from old and new friends, her family and her animated alter-ego, Lizzie is now navigating adulthood the best she can.
Though it seems some things haven’t entirely changed with her iconic bangs making a well-deserved comeback. As for Gordo’s less-than-dorky makeover? Boy, it’s a crush that certainly stood the test of time.
Duff recently teased other cast members who are returning for the reboot.
The mother-of-two took to Instagram to share a photograph of the McGuire family reunited in what will become their living room set.
Alongside the nostalgia-inducing snap of the foursome beaming at the camera, Duff wrote: “We are standing in what will soon be the McGuire living room. What’s up fam. We doing this.”
Of course, that means Hallie Todd (Jo McGuire), Jake Thomas (Matt McGuire), and Robert Carradine (Sam McGuire) will all return for the small screen project.
The Lizzie McGuire reboot will air on streaming platform Disney+ which is set to launch on November 12 in the US.
The premiere date has yet to be announced but filming is well underway.
