Being born a royal goes hand in hand with the constant gaze of a camera lens—unless you’re Lilibet Diana Mountbatten Windsor. The youngest Sussex was born a year after Prince Harry and Meghan Markle stepped back from their roles as senior royal family members, which meant Lilibet (shortened to Lili by her parents) never had to be presented to the public per royal tradition: no public birth announcement, no official name reveal and definitely no first photocall.
Instead, the first public image Lili dropped when she’d already grown to six months old. For context, her older brother Archie Harrison had his first photoshoot aged a mere 72 hours following his birth back in 2019.
Indeed, you could say that Lili is the most elusive of the royals, protected by her parents’ strong desire to raise their children away from the public eye. Still, there are small anecdotes and several more pictures the public has ben privy to in the years since her birth.
What does Lilibet look like now?
The last time we saw Lilibet was a couple of days after her first birthday on June 4, 2022. The one-year-old had travelled from the US to London for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations, with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle opting to stay with the kids in their former Windsor residence, Frogmore Cottage.
For Lili’s birthday, the Sussexes hosted close friends for an intimate gathering in the cottage’s backyard. Included on the guest list was photographer Misan Harriman who shared a series of photos from the day, including one with Lilibet smiling into the camera. Another featured the young royal being cradled by her mum alongside friends.
Harriman wrote alongside the pictures, “It was such a privilege to celebrate the 1st birthday of Lilibet with my family and hers! Joy and face painting all around.”
How old is Lilibet Diana?
Lilibet was born on June 4, 2021, making her one year and five months old.
As of November 2022, Lilibet has now reached a major milestone, as revealed by mum Meghan in her podcast, Archetypes.
“Lili has just started walking,” Meghan announced, adding that her three-year-old son Archie is “in the thick of it—toddling”.
She went into detail about the morning rush of organising two toddlers, quipping that she expects things will only become “more chaotic” as they get older.
“For me, it’s, you know, both monitors on for the kids to hear them, always up with Lili, get her downstairs, then a half hour later, Archie’s up. I start doing his lunchbox right before he’s up while I have her, getting her a little nibble. My husband’s helping me get him downstairs,” Markle explained.
Marke said she takes joy in making breakfast for her family at their Montecito home, “It’s very important to me. I love doing it. To me, it just feels like the greatest way to start the morning.”
Who does Lilibet Diana look like?
This one is up for debate, but it’s easy to draw similarities between Lilibet and Prince Harry due to Lili’s bright red hair. That said, some Twitter users have pointed out the striking similarities Lili shares with her mum Meghan—particularly her cheeks.
No doubt the next time we’re treated to new pictures of Lilibet we’ll find a bunch more comparisons, too.
