Your favourite blonde Elle Woods is officially set to make her return, coming to the big screen Valentine’s Day 2020, it has been announced.
Reese Witherspoon will reprise her role as sorority sister-turned-lawyer Elle Woods, and will also produce the film through her Hello Sunshine production company. Legally Blonde producer Marc Platt and his Platt Productions president Adam Siegel will produce as well.
Witherspoon confirmed her involvement in the project via Instagram last June, posting a short video of herself floating in a pool in a pink bikini with the comment, “It’s true…#LegallyBlonde3.”
Later in August, Witherspoon confirmed the announcement in an interview with ET, saying: “Oh, it’s gonna be so fun! I got to go to a meeting the other day where we talked about all the new plot points and all the characters and some returning characters and some new characters. I mean, I got so excited just at the meeting. I was like, ‘This is gonna be good’.”
Luke Wilson (aka Emmett) has also expressed interest in the film. The actor spoke with ET Online Friday at SiriusXM’s Radio Row and was asked if he would reprise his role alongside Witherspoon. He confirmed he didn’t know anything about the upcoming project but said he was “100 per cent down”.
“I’d definitely be up for it…All I’ve heard is the same thing everyone else has heard, it’s that they might be doing a Legally Blonde 3. But I can’t imagine anything that would be more fun. Reese played such a great character. I’d love to do a Legally Blonde 3.”
The only downside of the upcoming film? We’ll have to wait until 2020 to see it!
