Here’s what you need to know about Killing Eve season 3:
There’s a new writer behind the script
Each season of Killing Eve so far has had a different head writer and season three is no different. Filling the big shoes left behind by Phoebe Waller-Bridge (season one) and Emerald Fennell (season two) is Susanne Heathcote.
“As we did last year, we’re renewing Killing Eve right out of the gate, now with Suzanne Heathcote as lead writer, as a sign of confidence–we adore this show as much as our fans do,” said Sarah Barnett, President of Entertainment Networks for AMC, in a statement. “Killing Eve doesn’t do anything in a templated way; we love giving opportunity to three genius women to make their mark.”
Fun fact: Fennell, who is not just a writer but an actress too, is playing Camilla Parker Bowles in season 3 and beyond of The Crown.
A lot of new cast members are joining the team
Expect to see a lot of new faces in season 3. It’s been confirmed that actors Harriet Walter (Succession, The Crown), Danny Sapani (Star Wars, Penny Dreadful), Gemma Whelan (Game of Thrones), Pedja Bjelac (Harry Potter), Camille Cottin (Allied), Steve Pemberton (Inside No. 9), Raj Bajaj (Doctor Who), Turlough Convery (Ready Player One), and Evgenia Dodina (Invisible) are all joining the cast.
Sandra Oh is back for season 3
Season 2 ended with assassin Villanelle (Jodie Comer) shooting Eve Polastri (Sandra Oh) in the back and leaving her for dead on the ground among some forgotten Italian ruins, which begged the question, is Sandra Oh coming back for another season?
During an interview with Porter magazine, Sandra let it slip that her character Eve does survive. “So, obviously I didn’t die,” she said.
“[The next season] is basically about coming back after that, emotionally.”
Eve and Villanelle will cross paths again
We already know that Eve survives, so will season 3 be about her seeking revenge? It doesn’t sound like it. According to the show’s synopsis, “The third season of the critically-acclaimed and award-winning Killing Eve continues the story of two women with brutal pasts, addicted to each other but now trying desperately to live their lives without their drug of choice.”
“All seems fine until a shocking and personal death sets them on a collision course yet again.”
Expect a new storyline to unfold
Season 3 might not revolve solely around Eve and Villanelle. Sandra let another little spoiler slip during her interview with Porter, saying, “This happens to be a break for me. They are shooting [another storyline] elsewhere. I won’t tell you where; it’s fantastic! I can’t believe I can’t go.”
Although we don’t have any details of the plot just yet, Jodie Comer shared a sneak preview of what Villanelle has been up to via Instagram.
“Early makeup call for this clown. Before and after pics from shooting @killingeve season 3,” she captioned a photograph of herself transformed into a clown. “I’ll let you decide which is which. Head over to our page for all the latest info on our new season, coming to you soon. BTS.”
Will there be a ‘Killing Eve’ season 4?
Before we’ve even had chance to devour season 3 in one swoop, a fourth installment has already been confirmed.
Taking over from Suzanne Heathcote, ‘Sex Education’ writer Laura Neal will be in charge of the script.
“Killing Eve smashes television tropes in every way, both on the screen and behind it,” AMC President, Sarah Barnett, said.
“We have a remarkable squad of ferociously smart women writers passing the baton to each other on this show, aligned around a coherent vision but bringing it to life with their own specific sparkle and brilliance. Laura Neal is the latest incredible leader of the pack on Killing Eve.”
Season 4 will go into production later this year.
