Last week, Khloe Kardashian gave birth to a baby girl, but the milestone was marred by her partner Tristan Thompson’s painfully recent infidelity – the basketball player was allegedly filmed kissing other women just days before the birth.
Now, it appears Khloe already has sole custody over her newborn daughter: according to state law, the mother is automatically granted this right if she isn’t married to the baby’s father.
“If a child is born to unmarried parents, then under Ohio law, the mother has sole custody. It is then up to the father to file with the court to establish paternity, custody/shared-parenting, and/or visitation rights,” Katie Arthurs, Principal Attorney at McCarthy, Lebit, Crystal & Liffman tells HollywoodLife.
As HollywoodLife points out, Khloe was living in Cleveland, where Thompson is based, up until the baby’s birth, but local media are adamant she is now planning to relocate back to LA. Having automatic sole custody would make that move possible.
According to reports, Thompson, Kourtney, Kris and Khloe’s best friend Malika were all by her side in the delivery room of the Cleveland hospital where her daughter was born.
Meanwhile, the Twittersphere and Keeping Up With The Kardashians fans are convinced mum Kris Jenner is behind the whole thing.
We really, really hope not.
