She chose Michelle Obama’s go-to glam designer du jour: Brandon Maxwell

Trust Kerry Washington – the woman who brings Olivia Pope to life in Scandal – to make a serious statement on the red carpet.

At today’s Emmy Awards, where she was nominated for Lead Actress, Washington made a grand entrance with her beautiful baby bump clad in a cut-out maxi dress by the A-list’s power dressing designer du jour: Brandon Maxwell.

Most know Maxwell as Lady Gaga’s longterm stylist and BFF. But the designer has recently amped up his signature label and has found fans in every alpha-female we bow down to. (Think: Naomi Campbell, Jane Fonda and Mariah Carey).

Michelle Obama, the queen of sartorial power moves, even wore one of his gowns on the cover of an American magazine this month.

Maxwell was a fantastic, if surprising choice for Kerry for her big Emmys moment this year. But lest we all forget, the 39-year-old actress never shies away from taking fashion risks while pregnant.

Her big baby bump reveal happened in a gothic Marc Jacobs gown at the Met Ball this year. And when she was pregnant with her first child in 2014 she went to the SAG awards in a Prada crop top and to the Golden Globes in a mint-green Balenciaga sheath.

File this under: maternity style goals.
