Kendall Jenner Takes The Crown From Gisele Bündchen To Become The World’s Highest Paid Model

Gisele's 15-year reign comes to an end

Kendall Jenner, at just 22 years of age, has replaced Brazilian supermodel Gisele Bündchen as the world’s highest paid model.

According to ForbesBündchen has held her position at the top of their World’s Highest-Paid Models list since 2002. Her record 15-year stint has now come to an end.

Jenner made a cool $22 million over the past year, which is reported to have come down to her earning potential through Instagram. Jenner’s Instagram following amounts to 84.8 million. On top of this, her deals with Estée Lauder, Adidas and La Perla have been of significant value.

In comparison, Bundchen earned $17.5 million over the past year, decreasing by 43% from 2016. The 37-year-old has had a quieter working year, doing fewer campaigns, but we still find amassing a cruisy $17 million over the past year pretty impressive.

Other factors contributing to Jenner soaring to the top include her position as part of the Kardashian-Jenner clan as well as her shared clothing line, KENDALL + KYLIE, Forbes reports.

A nice surprise was to find Chrissy Teigen included in the list for the first time. Her earnings from various fashion and food deals including Smirnoff have earned her a tidy $13.5 million.

There were a number of firsts for the list, including the first sisters to ever make it. Gigi and Bella Hadid both made the list, the elder sister earning $9.5 million and Bella (the youngest on the list at 21), earning $6 million.

A huge positive this year was Ashley Graham being the first curvy model to feature on the list, having earned $5.5 million. This is a great step forward for the fashion industry, as it furthers its way toward embracing different body types.

However, the list only includes one woman of colour, Liu Wen, having earned $6.5 million. Whilst the industry may be working towards a hint of diversity when it comes to body type, the modeling world is far from representative when it comes to cultural diversity.

Forbes bases its earnings estimates from 1 June 2016 to 1 June 2017. Estimations are based on incomes from cosmetic, fragrance and clothing contracts as well as interviews with agents, managers and brand executives before taxes and fees.
