While we all swooned over the first photos of Katie Holmes and Jamie Foxx at a public event together, apparently behind-the-scenes things were a little awkward.
But don’t stress: Yes, Holmes and Foxx are very much together and in love, they just didn’t want the affair to be considered a ‘public debut,’ in fact, they hadn’t even planned to sit together.
“This event just happened to be one they were both attending,” a source told PEOPLE. “Clive [Davis] put them at the same table with Diddy and French Montana, this wasn’t a big public debut for them.”
Apparently, Holmes even tried to divert attention from her relationship by leaving the table just as Davis (who was hosting the party) announced her partner’s presence.
“This lady left the room right when I was going to introduce her, she was sitting at that table right with Jamie Foxx and everyone else,” Davis said according to PEOPLE. “If you’re going to sit together what better night than tonight?” he continued.
“Katie was really uncomfortable when Clive called her out,” the source says. “They still plan to be very under the radar with their relationship. They are both very private and never plan to be super public or talk about their relationship.”
Holmes and Foxx are rumoured to have been dating for five years now, but reports suggested Holmes couldn’t be seen with her new beau thanks to Tom Cruise, who included a clause in her 2012 divorce settlement banning his ex-wife from publicly dating for five years.
