The Prince and Princess of Wales have released a sweet new family portrait in honour of Mother’s Day in the UK.
The new image shows Kate Middleton, 41, sitting in a tree with her three children, Prince George, 9, Princess Charlotte, 7, and Prince Louis, 4, alongside the caption, “Happy Mother’s Day from our family to yours ❤️.”
Also released was an image of Kate playfully cradling Louis in the garden of their Sandringham estate in Norfolk
The photos were taken by Matt Porteus, a royal photographer who has previously captured monumental occasions for the family including their 2021 Christmas card, and Prince George’s third birthday.
In an interview with Harper’s Bazaar US in 2019, Porteus said the royal children were a “joy to photograph.”
Buckingham Palace also marked the occasion on Instagram with an image of King Charles III and his mother, the late Queen Elizabeth II, and an image of the Queen Consort, Camilla, with her mother, Rosalind Shine.
The first picture shows Charles as a baby, lovingly propped on his mother’s lap as they pose together for a portrait. It was shared with the caption, “💐 To all mothers everywhere, and to those who may be missing their mums today, we are thinking of you and wishing you a special #MothersDay.”
Sunday marked the King’s first Mother’s Day without the Queen, who died on September 8, 2022, aged 96.
The second image shows a young Camilla Parker, with her mother Rosalind, who died in 1994 at the age of 72, following a battle with osteoporosis.
In an interview with The Weekly, Camilla said of her mother’s illness, “She was in her mid-60s when she got it. Nobody in those days knew anything about osteoporosis. So when she suddenly used to scream, which she did if somebody touched her, we thought, ‘Why is she making such a fuss about this? It can’t be that painful.'”
Camilla became Queen Consort in September, 2022 when Charles , after Queen Elizabeth expressed her wishes for her daughter-in-law to take the title. King Charles will formally take the title as head of the monarchy at his coronation, which is scheduled for 6 May, 2023.
