Kate Middleton, despite recent revelations in the royal family following the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s announcement to “step back” from duties, celebrated her 38th birthday in style. In the photo, Kate leans against a wooden fence, dressed casually in a blue-and-white checkered collar button-down, Fjallraven “Ovik” Re-Wool sweater, and classic blue jeans.
The caption reads, “Thank you everyone for all your lovely messages on The Duchess of Cambridge’s birthday!”
The pic was taken by royal photographer Matt Porteous, who also shared the pic on his Instagram to wish Kate a happy birthday. Per HELLO!, “Matt famously took Prince Louis’ christening shots, Prince George’s birthday snaps and the family’s Christmas cards in the past years.”

Meghan and Harry commented on the Instagram photo of Kate with the caption, “Wishing a very happy birthday to The Duchess of Cambridge today! 🎂❤️”, but the Cambridge’s are yet to formally comment on their recent decision to move to North America.
Some royal fans may notice the new image appears to be from the same photoshoot that produced the Cambridge’s 2018 Christmas Card.
“The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are pleased to share a new photograph of their family,” read the Kensington Palace 2018 caption. “The photograph, taken by Matt Porteous, shows The Duke and Duchess with their three children at Anmer Hall. This photograph features on Their Royal Highnesses’ Christmas card this year.”
In the picture, Kate holds Prince Louis in her lap, while Princess Charlotte and Prince George serve silly poses next to her and dad Prince William. The whole family sits outdoors on the trunk of a tree.
According to People, Kate and Will invited their close family and friends to their country home, Anmer Hall in Norfolk, with some of the guests also joining them at church before the shindig began. Spotted with the couple were Rose Hanbury, Marchioness of Cholmondeley, family friend Thomas van Straubenzee, and his wife, Lucy Lanigan-O’Keeffe, who is a teacher at Prince George and Princess Charlotte’s school.
The Duchess has celebrated her birthday in a similar fashion before – last year, also attending church with friends before hosting a birthday bash. She also reportedly had her nearest and dearest join her for high tea at her Kensington Palace home. We can only imagine the goodies and sweets that would have been on offer!
