In the post, shared with her 6.7 million Instagram followers and 12.3 million Facebook followers, Von D revealed that she and her husband have decided not to vaccinate their first child when he is born.

“I knew the minute we announced our pregnancy that we would be bombarded with unsolicited advice,” she writes.

“If you don’t know what it’s like to have the entire world openly criticize, judge, throw uninformed opinions, and curse you – try being an openly pregnant vegan on Instagram, having a natural, drug-free home birth in water with a midwife and doula, who has the intention of raising a vegan child, without vaccinations,” she continues.

“My point being: I already know what it’s like to make life choices that are not the same as the majority. So your negative comments are not going influence my choices – actual research and educating myself will – which i am diligently doing. This is my body. This is our child. And this is our pregnancy journey.”

Her post has drawn the ire of thousands – although it’s also attracted over 700k likes on Instagram alone.

“Not vaccinating is the most irresponsible ting you could ever do to your child, other infants, the elderly, and people with compromised immune systems such as myself who could easily die from a preventable disease,” writes one. “I am a scientist and a big fan of you, but this is dangerous and a public health hazard.”

“I agree with all you are saying EXCEPT the vaccinations,” writes another. “I am a nurse and I see firsthand what happens to children who are not vaccinated and the risk they can pose to others. Do your research and do what is best for your child based on true science not just beliefs.”
