After reports from endless sources proclaiming that the couple are “working through some things”, Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez have decided to officially end their relationship.
Issuing a joint statement on The Today Show on April 15, the former power couple announced that they have chosen to part ways after four years together.
“We have realised we are better as friends and look forward to remaining so,” the statement read. “We will continue to work together and support each other on our shared businesses and projects,”
“We wish the best for each other and one another’s children. Out of respect for them, the only other comment we have is to say is thank you to everyone who has sent kind words and support.”
Back on March 13, reports had surfaced that Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez had split with People reporting that the couple had opted to call off their engagement.
“This has been a long time coming,” a source told the outlet.
Days after those rumours began to swirl, the couple released their first statement on the reports to People, announcing that they had plans to stay together.
“We are working through some things,” they confirmed in a joint statement.
“They never officially broke up and talked about it but are still together. They hit a rough patch. But were not broken up,” a source said. “She’s working in the Dominican Republic and he’s in Miami so it’s tough seeing each other especially with quarantining and COVID, but they want to try to stay together.”
The couple got engaged in the Bahamas in March 2019 after dating for two years, and over the past year had been forced to postpone their wedding date twice due to the pandemic.
The reported split came amid speculation that A.Rod had an affair with Southern Charm star Madison LeCroy, who was accused of sparking a relationship with a married MLB player.
However, when addressing the rumour LeCroy said the pair had “never met.”
In an interview with Page Six, the reality star claimed that the pair have “spoken on the phone”—in calls that she said described as “innocent”—but said that they have “never met up” and “never been physical … never had any kind of anything. Just an acquaintance.”
Just last month, J.Lo opened up about the couple going to therapy.
“I miss being creative and running on 150,” she told Allure. “But Alex, of all people, was like, ‘I love it. I love being at home. I love doing my Zooms. I love knowing the kids are there, and you’re there all the time.’ It has been actually really good.”
“We got to work on ourselves. We did therapy,” she said. “I think it was really helpful for us in our relationship.”
