During a surprise appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, the Hollywood heavyweight was asked about the possibility of a Friends reboot to which she all-too-swiftly replied: “No.”

Of course, the news disheartened the audience who let out a collective sigh.

In a bid to reignite our intrigue, Aniston – who took on the role of Rachel Green in the cult US series – did offer hope for self-confessed binge-watchers of the show.

“Listen, we would love for there to be something, but we don’t know what that something is,” she teased. “So we’re just trying. We’re working on something.”

Keen to garner more information, DeGeneres suggested that the forthcoming project could be a “huge, huge, huge movie.”

‘I don’t… we don’t know,” the 50-year-old replied. “I don’t want to lead people on…”

But it’s a little late for that, as Aniston recently earned a Guinness World Record after posting a photograph of herself alongside the cast on Instagram.

Stealing the crown from the Duke and Duchess of Sussex for amassing over one million followers in an impressive five hours and 16 minutes, Aniston kickstarted her feed with a photograph of a recent Friends reunion.

Tugging at our heartstrings, the image depicts Phoebe (Lisa Kudrow), Chandler (Matthew Perry), Courteney Cox (Monica), Matt LeBlanc (Joey) and David Schwimmer (Ross) all beaming at the camera alongside the caption: “And now we’re Instagram FRIENDS too. HI INSTAGRAM.” The record-breaking snap marked the first time the six of them have been photographed together since the hit series left our television screens back in 2004 and we haven’t been able to stop talking about it since.

But DeGeneres thinks there’s more behind the picture than meets the eye and hinted that the long-awaited dinner was actually a business meeting.

“We did that because we miss each other and we all happened to be in the same part of the world,” Aniston claimed.

“Right. Nobody falls for that, Jen,” DeGeneres replied. “Nobody’s like, ‘Well let’s all get together ’cause we haven’t seen each other…'”

Though it’s not the first time Aniston has teased the dangerous possibility of a reunion-of-sorts either.

Back in June, the actress admitted that she’s keen to reprise the role of Rachel during an interview with DeGeneres.

“Ohhh-kay. Why not?” Aniston said. “You know what, because, listen, I told you this: I would do it. The girls would do it and the boys would do it, I’m sure. Listen, anything could happen.”

Seemingly referencing Schwimmer’s refusal to take part in a reboot last January, the chat show host replied: “Even if someone can’t do it…?”

“Yes, I can do it,” Aniston quipped. “I can do it by myself. Who needs the other? Those are just – they take me down.”
