Yesterday Hollywood’s metaphorical jaw hit the floor after one of its golden couples officially revealed they were over.
Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan Tatum announced their split after nearly nine years of marriage and a daughter, Everly, 4, together.
The pair, who met on the set of Step Up in 2006, took to Instagram to announce the news.
“We have lovingly chosen to separate as a couple. Absolutely nothing has changed about how much we love one another, but love is a beautiful journey that is taking us on different paths for now.”
Cue the internet meltdown:
However eagle-eyed fans have since noticed that Jenna, 37, had hinted that something was coming, posting a series of inspirational quotes to her 4.5 million followers.
The actress also opened up to Health magazine back in February lamenting the “perfect marriage” label people desperately want to give.
“I despise the word ‘perfect,’” the mum-of-one said. “When people say you guys have such a perfect life, I want to scream and tell them no one’s perfect.”
“It is a great fit as long as you are growing together, and I think up until this point we’ve really grown together. Even if one starts to grow, the other catches up and vice versa.”
“We fight like other couples, we disagree about things, we have days where we don’t really like each other,” she added.
More details have emerged surrounding details of the split, with sources saying distance was to blame for the couple’s separation.
Sources confirmed to People that the couple had been spending less and less time together.
“When Everly was younger, Channing and Jenna used to spend a lot of family time together,” says a source. “For the past year, they seem to have spent less time together.”
“This has been a long time coming,” another insider added. “Like any marriage, they’ve had their ups and downs over the years but they really started to grow apart within the last year.”
New York Post’s Page Six also reports an unnamed source with saying the split was “due to spending more time apart because of the pressure of work”.
“It is hard on a marriage to be apart so much, especially when you have a young child.”
