The Hollywood heartthrob is the latest big name to join the cast of the upcoming sequel to the 1982 cult classic after an impressive portrayal of the joker in Suicide Sqaud.
“We are thrilled that Jared has agreed to play a key role in the Blade Runner sequel. He is a phenomenal actor, and we all know he will create a truly memorable, never before-seen character,” producers Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson said in a joint press release.
Character profiles and details on the eagerly-awaited sequel are still being kept firmly under wraps however we do know the film is set several decades after the original and that Harrison Ford is set to reprise his original role as Rick Deckard. Other key cast members include Ryan Gosling, Robin Wright, Mackenzie Davis and Dave Bautista.
Back in July Gosling said the forthcoming Blade Runner sequel is “a huge responsibility” and joked that “they put a chip in my neck. If I say too much, my head will explode.”
Speaking of Jokers, Leto’s co-stars might have to prepare themselves for any on-set surprises that might come their way.
The untitled Blade Runner sequel is slated for an October 2017 release.
