Taylor Swift fans are going through a wild time at the moment: trying to plan their Eras Tour outfits, processing the news that she has split with boyfriend of six years Joe Alwyn, and now dodging dating rumours.
The newest in the line up is a report in The Sun that Swift, 33, is dating the 1975’s front man Matty Healy.
It comes after a source told the publication that the two are ‘in love’.
“It’s super-early days, but it feels right. They first dated, very briefly, almost ten years ago but timings just didn’t work out,” they said.
“Taylor and Joe actually split up back in February, so there was absolutely no crossover.”
Naturally, fans are shocked at the idea that the singer, who appeared very much in love with Alwyn until the news broke of their split, could have moved on so fast. It is causing many to question the validity of this source and the early reports.
The timing of the Joe breakup is plausible, but with Swift completing her Eras Tour and Healy on tour with the 1975 for their At Their Very Best concerts, it is hard to imagine that either would have romantic pursuits front of mind.
The news hasn’t come out of nowhere though. The two were rumoured to be close nearly 10 years ago, and there are some interesting photos of the pair partying with UK radio presenter Nick Grimshaw back in 2015.
Then, on January 12, Swift performed her hit single from Midnights ‘Anti-Hero’ as a surprise guest at the 1975’s show at London’s O2 arena.
Swift was also captured giving Matt Healy’s mother, Denise Welch, a cuddle backstage at the show, which Welch shared on her Instagram. It could all be a coincidence, but some fans think all these elements may add up to something.
The source in The Sun’s article noted that Swift and Healy might be so keen to reveal their relationship that she would do so at her Eras Tour concert in Nashville on Friday (Saturday, Australia time).
This does seem a little soon, but the likelihood that we will have any confirmation or denial outside of a concert or lyrics in a song remains low. Swift is famously quiet about her relationship status, and still is yet to officially confirm her split with Alwyn. All we have to say is, watch this space.
