Everyone knows getting the perfect Instagram shot involves a lot of patience, good lighting and a combination of filters.
But it doesn’t usually involve a shark bite, blood and permanent scarring.
An Instagram model has gone to great (white) lengths to get “the shot” while holidaying in the Bahamas with her boyfriend and his family.
Katrina Zarutskie, who has 42,000 followers on Instagram, took a picture with a pack of nurse sharks and the result was fierce. Not in a good way.
“I leaned back, and then that shark, he came and he bit down on my arm,” Zarutskie told Buzzfeed.
“He had my wrist in his mouth and I could feel his teeth sinking into my arm,” she went on to tell NBC News.
Zarutskie, 19, was held underwater for several seconds before she managed to tear her arm from the shark’s grip.
The entire attack was captured on camera – and posted to Zarutskie’s Instagram account with the caption: “PSA: Sharks are cute and can nibble at times if not careful.” Noted.
The photos show her calmly covering the bite and raising her arm up in the air in attempt to keep the blood out of the water.
“At that point your body has so much adrenaline going and you just have to get out of the situation, but I stayed extremely calm,” she said. “I think if someone was screaming and flailing around it definitely could have changed the situation.”
Zarutskie had to have stitches and take antibiotics for the wound, which still had fragments of teeth in it.
She will have a scar for the rest of her life, but her Insta shot got 5,800 likes – so it’s, like, not all bad.
“I’m so fortunate that I still have my arm and my life,” Zarutskie said.
