The trend kickstarted when Instagram user @skipdin pulled together a runway-worthy look inspired by the Commes Des Garçons autumn/winter 15 show – fashioned with nothing but bin bags.
Inspiring others to get involved, he captioned the post: “Recreate your fave runway/red carpet look 💃 with whatevs you have lying around the house 🏠 and upload using the hashtag #HomeCouture 🌀(tagging moi ofc) to join in the wholesome fun! 🙋♀️ Think scouring pad ball gowns, toilet roll palazzo pants and saucepan fascinators…”
“Because in the words of Fifth Harmony we CAN work 👏 from 👏 HOME!! 🏠🎉 (Look inspired by Comme Des Garçons AW15 show) #WFH #AloneTogether #StayHome.”
But our favourite look has to be his second #HomeCouture creation, as he channelled Villanelle’s killer wardrobe in a take on her most famous look – that Molly Goddard frock.
Soon, fellow fashion enthusiasts got involved and proved that couture season may be cancelled but that doesn’t mean we can’t pay homage to our favourite designers.
One participant fashioned a Pierpaolo Piccioli for Moncler puffer evening gown from quarantine bedsheets while another tied toilet roll to their head in sartorial tribute to Alexander McQueen’s autumn/winter 2009 show.
