Hocus Pocus will forever be a Halloween movie classic. And thanks to Disney, there’s a Hocus Pocus 2 in the works.
There aren’t a lot of details so far, but Collider has confirmed Jen D’Angelo (who wrote and co-produced Workaholics) has been hired to write the script.
According to Collider’s sources, D’Angelo is working on finding a way to bring back the original Sanderson sisters cast of Bette Midler as Winifred, Sarah Jessica Parker as Sarah, and Kathy Najimy as Mary.
Last year, Hocus Pocus celebrated its 25th anniversary. Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, SJP said, “I don’t think any of us who were making it at the time thought Hocus Pocus would have such a long life. People tell me all the time they grew up watching it, and that they still watch it. I think it’s wonderful.”
Sarah Jessica Parker also said previously that she’s interested in being involved in a sequel, adding that the original cast keeps in touch via a group text thread. “I would love that,” she said on Watch What Happens Live in 2016. “I think we’ve all been fairly vocal about being very keen.”
Fans of the OG Hocus Pocus have been quick to put in their two cents about the sequel announcement, with mixed feelings flooding Twitter.
Hocus Pocus 2 will air on Disney+, a new streaming platform coming in November, although there’s no word yet as to when filming will begin.
