It has been nine years since Heath Ledger’s tragic passing from an accidental overdose of prescription drugs, but the love and fascination about the Australian star lives on.
The Oscar-winning actor, who was 28 when he died, is the subject the compelling documentary I Am Heath Ledger, which will air on Channel 7 on Sunday night.
The documentary features rare home movies and family snapshots from Ledger, a notoriously private person. Friends and colleagues—from ex-girlfriend Naomi Watts to actor Ben Mendelsohn—also open up about Ledger’s legacy.
‘That was a very sad day,” an emotional Watts says during an interview about Ledger’s tragic passing.
His sister, Kate Ledger, said watching the film for the first time was devastating.
“I think I screamed and cried through the whole first viewing,” she told The Project in Mat. “It’s quite a cathartic experience, I think, especially for our family.”
Ledger star was best known for his role in 10 Things I Hate About You, A Knight’s Tale, Brokeback Mountain and The Dark Knight, which he went on to win the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor Oscar posthumously for, for his role as the deeply troubled Joker.
I Am Heath Ledger airs on Sunday September 10, at 9pm on Channel 7.
