Earlier this week, we were blessed with the first-ever Sussex family Christmas card, and as if there was ever any doubt, the adorable, candid photo of Prince Harry, Meghan and their son Archie went viral. Somewhere between that moment just a few days ago and now, a British media led photoshop scandal erupted, claiming that the sweet snap of the family had been entirely manufactured. Particularly, the claims suggested that the Duchess of Sussex’s face had been photoshopped from another photo and that baby Archie and Prince Harry had also been retouched.

Thankfully, Meghan’s close friend and the photographer behind the lens, Janina Gavankar was able to clear things up with one quick Instagram post. The American actress and musician hit back at the negative press surrounding the card, signalling out the publication responsible for the misleading article.
“So proud to have taken the Christmas photo for one of my best friends and her family. Here’s the original that was sent out (cropped to fit IG). …and to The Mail, I see your campaign against my friend continues. Nice photoshop of my non-photoshopped image. Now may we all get back to the spirit of Christmas and not the spirit of maliciousness.”
Based on Gavankar’s post, it’s clear to see that the image circulated by the British media was a photoshopped version of the original card; the differences blatantly obvious when placed side by side.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are currently enjoying some time away from royal duties over the Christmas break, deciding to spend the holidays with Meghan’s mother Doria in Canada, while the rest of the royal family were present for the Queen’s traditional Sandringham celebrations.
