Ever since Netflix released its latest biopic, Halston, a deep dive into the extraordinary and influential life of designer Roy Halston Frowick, better known as Halston, many have begun to look back at those who wore, and continue to wear, his iconic designs. From muses Bianca Jagger and Anjelica Huston to Liza Minnelli, whose signature look is said to have been crafted by her longtime friend, right up to the late ’00s with celebrities like Sarah Jessica Parker, there are plenty of famous faces who are regularly seen sporting Halston designs. Read on for 14 memorable moments where celebrities wore Halston.
Jackie Kennedy, 1961
Former First Lady, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, had a few trademark pieces that defined her iconic style—including the pillbox hat, as seen pictured below at her husband, John F. Kennedy’s, inauguration. Interestingly, prior to the creation of his namesake label, Halston was the brains behind the legendary piece.
“Funny thing about that pillbox hat,” the designer once said during a 1966 interview, via Vogue. “It was made too small for her… but Mrs. Kennedy wore it anyway. When a gust of wind threatened to topple it from her head, she dented it hanging on to the hat. The Seventh Avenue copycat hat makers reproduced the design by the thousands so accurately that each pillbox had a dent in it.”
Anjelica Huston, 1972
The American model was a regular on the runways of Halston in the ’70s.
Liza Minnelli, 1973
Many might not know that Halston was behind the creation of Minnelli’s signature look, right down to the pixie cut, and the pair had a close bond throughout the ’70s and ’80s. The actress was even wearing a Halston gown when she accepted her Academy Award for Cabaret.
Bianca Jagger, 1974
Jagger was a frequent wearer of Halston, and the former actress and designer were some of Studio 54’s most frequent guests. Her red sequin dress, with matching jacket and hat, are among one of Jagger’s (and Halston’s) most legendary.

Liza Minnelli, 1986
Halston is credited with crafting his friend and muse, Liza Minnelli’s, signature look. “I met him when I was 20,” Minnelli told WWD in a 1990 interview. “From that time, I never did a show or went to a party—or threw one—without him guiding me. Every show I did, I performed in his living room first. In him there was tastefulness, style and simplicity.”
“We got along instantly, and he became my fashion mate,” the entertainer later told Harper’s Bazaar of meeting the late designer. “I did what he said. He really took care of me.”
