A day of shopping and fashion culture can leave you hungry, especially when you’re inside the three-story Gucci Garden in Florence. Since ducking out for a slice of pizza would bring down that whole luxe vibe, it makes sense to refuel somewhere fancy. Like say, a Michelan star restaurant.

And as luck would have it, the on-site intimate fine dining restaurant Gucci Osteria da Massimo Bottura just earned itself a Michelin star. No biggie.
The restaurant was born from a childhood friendship between Gucci CEO Marco Bizzarri and founder of the three Michelin starred Osteria Francescana in Modena, Italy, Massimo Bottura. “Haute couture and haute cuisine are a recipe made in heaven,” said Bottura when the restaurant opened in January 2018.
“This is an incredible achievement that fills us with joy. I have been friends with Marco for over 40 years and this is a wonderful recognition for the vision that we have created together with the Gucci family,” said Bottura of the Michelin star in a statement. “When ideas are born of friendships, they harness a different strength and this is just the beginning of an exciting adventure,” he added.
The food at Gucci Osteria is a culinary collaboration between Massimo Bottura and chef Karime López Moreno Tagle, who are inspired by their shared love for travel, art, and music. Dishes hero produce that is in season locally so ingredients travel a smaller distance, ensuring greater flavour and fewer food miles – a key ethos of chef López.
In an Instagram post, Gucci Osteria praised their Mexican-born head chef Karime López, who is the only woman chef among the new Italian entries to the Michelin Guide. “Her menu for the restaurant challenges the traditional perception of Italian cuisine, creating playful takes on classic dishes,” the post read.
Changing seasonally, it covers all corners of the world, from a pork bun that pays homage to López’s husband Takahiko Kondo, to the reinterpretation of the Mexican tostada with Italian ingredients, and of course, decadent pasta dishes because you are in Italy after all.
The interior deserves a mention, too. An ode to the Renaissance period, it features plush forest green velvet-covered chairs, bold lime green walls and arched ceilings and doorways. There’s also a private dining room that seats 14 people and an alfresco dining section overlooking Florence’s most famous square, Piazza della Signoria, that’s perfect for people watching.
