A homeless man has attacked and killed a 22-year-old university student and top amateur golfer, who was playing a round on her campus course in central Iowa.
Celia Barquin Arozamena was found dead in a body of water at Coldwater Golf Links after police were called to the scene to investigate a lone bag found with no one around it.
Collin Daniel Richards, a 22-year-old homeless man who was living in a tent on the course, has been charged with first-degree murder, SMH reports. Richards reportedly told an acquaintance recently he had “an urge to rape and kill a woman.”
“Our hearts are with Celia’s family and friends as we grieve her passing,” Iowa State president Wendy Wintersteen said in a statement. “It’s a terrible, tragic and senseless loss.”
Head women’s golf coach Christie Martens said in a release that Barquin was “loved by all her teammates and friends” and was an “outstanding representative of our school”
