Bonnie Cuthbert – the long-term girlfriend of missing Australian backpacker Rye Hunt – has issued an emotional public plea for her partner to come home.
On Saturday night, Cuthbert took to Instagram to post of photo of herself and Hunt, 25, along with the caption, “I love you so much @ryehunt please come home.”
Hunt, from Hobart, was last seen in Brazil on May 21. He disappeared at Galeao International Airport in Rio after arguing with travelling companion Mitchell Sheppard.
A local fisherman claimed to have sighted Hunt on Wednesday morning, near the island of Rasa, 8km from the mainland. Local police alleged in a press conference that Hunt swam to the uninhabited Cotonduba Island during a psychotic episode brought on by taking MDMA while at a party with Sheppard.
The search for the missing backpacker continued over the weekend after a body was reportedly spotted floating off the coast of Rasa Island.
Hunt has still not been found.
