Gigi Hadid has been released from jail after she was arrested for drug possession while flying to the Cayman Islands in the Caribbean.
Hadid arrived at the Owen Roberts International Airport in the capital city of George Town, Grand Cayman via private plane.
According to TMZ, the 28-year-old supermodel was being searched by customs upon her arrival to the islands when border control agents found “a small amount of weed and smoking utensils.”
The outlet also claims that Hadid and her friend were reportedly “arrested on charges of importation of marijuana and importation of utensils to smoke the cannabis”.
Hadid has since been released from jail and The Sun has also reported that the drugs were determined to be for personal use only.
Hadid and her friend were formally charged in a Cayman Islands court, where the pair pleaded guilty and were ordered to pay a US$1000 fine. Neither Hadid or her friend received any convictions on their records.
Hadid’s spokesperson told E! Online that “Gigi was travelling with marijuana purchased legally in NYC with a medical license.”
“It has also been legal for medical use in Grand Cayman since 2017. Her record remains clear and she enjoyed the rest of her time on the island.”
A source close to the star has since told TMZ that the weed wasn’t actually found in Hadid’s bag.
“It was found in a bag of one of the people she was travelling with … but because the plane was in her name, all of the contents became her responsibility,” the source claimed.
Hadid hasn’t publicly commented on the incident, however, she has been sharing photographs of her Cayman Islands trip to her Instagram page.
