HBO has confirmed that the eighth season of Game of Thrones will be its last, leaving fans everywhere disappointed.
HBO programming director Casey Bloys announced the news for the Television Critics Association press tour, saying that the amount of episodes left in the season was still up in the air, but would likely be about six episodes.

โYes, I think [the showrunners, DB Weiss and David Benioff] have a very specific plan about the number of seasons they want to do.โ
While the show creators have spoken about potentially doing a spinoff series, there arenโt concrete plans for this yet.
โWeโve talked about it. Itโs something Iโm not opposed to, but of course it has to make sense creatively,โ he said.
โIโm open to it. [Benioff and Weiss] werenโt opposed to it, but thereโs no concrete plans for it at this point.โ

Many fans are left wondering how such an intricate storyline will be wrapped up with just thirteen episodes left of Game of Thrones, but as โAll men must dieโ, all shows must die eventually too.
Season 7 will be airing in June 2017.
