Images of Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie holding up pink, bedazzled phones to their ears while letting out a “that’s hot” come to mind with flip phones. But Samsung’s newest innovation is a far cry from what we have come to expect from the classic model, with the Galaxy Z Flip renewing the nostalgic style to fit our modern needs.
“Galaxy Z Flip is an important next step as we look to build the foldable category by bringing to consumers a new form factor, new display and most importantly, a new kind of mobile experience,” said Dr TM Roh, President and Head of Mobile Communications Business, Samsung Electronics. “With Galaxy Z Flip’s unique foldable design and user experience, we’re redefining what a mobile device can be, and what it enables consumers to do.”
Samsung, the world’s leading innovator in mobile technology (and beyond), knows exactly what we need when it comes to our handheld devices – consistently providing revolutions in the fields of photography, AI and connectivity. Unsurprisingly, the Z Flip is presenting us with new ways to connect, capture and communicate.
Below, everything you should know…
A New Way To Present
While not pink and bedazzled (sorry Paris), the Galaxy Z Flip’s signature colour is a chic shade of purple. It’s also available in black, with the overall design bold and stylish.
A New Way To Capture
It’s really the camera capabilities that set it apart, though. The mobile has two 12-megapixel sensors with a wide-angle and an ultra-wide-angle and a 10-megapixel internal camera. One of the most captivating new features is Single Take, which provides users with multiple images and video options through a single take.
The flip also uses ultra-thin glass for its 6.7-inch display (unlike other modern flips that use plastic) and features a hinge that’s stiff enough to stand up on its own, so you can use the device-hands free. Samsung worked closely with Google to design “Flex mode” – custom-built user experience for Galaxy Z Flip’s unique forward folding form factor. When the device is free-standing, the display automatically splits into two screens so you can easily view images, content or videos on the top half of the display, and control them on the bottom half.
A New Way To Get Ahead
Don’t think that the fold is purely for novelty though, with the thought behind Samsung’s latest innovations being ‘technology with intention’. Meaning its versatile features allow for a seamless and easy user experience, which is exactly what the Z Flip’s cover display demonstrates. From its folded position, a user can easily manage notifications, take a cheeky selfie and more. You can double-tap the display or press the side key to instantly view the date, time and battery status. A swipe to the left will pull up music controls, while a swipe to the right accesses the notification panel. Once the user taps a notification and unfolds the device, they’re able to pick up precisely where they left off on the main screen.
Welcome to the future, everybody.
