In response to the healthcare crisis in the US, a fairground in Virginia has become a makeshift hospital, offering free treatment to thousands of patients.
Shocking images show the desperation of Americans who travelled miles and slept in cars overnight to be first in line to be seen by volunteer doctors who carried out examinations and treatment in animal stalls, semi-trailer rigs and barns.
The three-day pop-up clinic is an annual event held at the Wise Country Fairgrounds, providing dental, medical and vision services to thousands of uninsured and underinsured people.
Brit Stan Brock who founded Remote Area Medical, the charity behind the event, told The Daily Telegraph, “I just wish President Trump could come and see this. The people here are Mr Trump’s constituency, they’re his voters, and it drives me up the wall.”
Brock said he expected to see such chaotic scenes in South Sudan and Haiti, not America.
Currently in the US, Republican officials are grumbling over the future of Obamacare. The party is divided with moderates concerned about passing bills which could eliminate insurance for millions of low-income Americans, and conservatives who want to see even deeper cuts to Obamacare.
