Millennials rejoice! Our favourite 2000s film, Freaky Friday, is receiving a sequel, and the original cast is making a return.
The Hollywood Reporter confirmed last year that OG Freaky Friday stars Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis would feature in the second film, which will be produced by Disney.
Production is now officially under way, with the media giant sharing a sweet photograph of the co-stars on-set. In the snap, Lindsay and Jamie Lee poke fun at the original film’s plot line, sitting in front of each other’s trailers.
The original Freaky Friday first aired 20 years ago, in 2003. It was adapted from the 1972 movie, which had already inspired three films by the time the most famous iteration was produced.
Jamie Lee and Lindsay shared their excitement over the sequel in a joint interview with the New York Times in 2023, with Jamie saying the film was inspired by fans’ questions about the original film.
“I called my friends at Disney and said, ‘It feels like there’s a movie to be made’.”
“Jamie and I are both open to that, so we’re leaving it in the hands that be. We would only make something that people would absolutely adore,” Lindsay added.
Freaky Friday Sequel Cast
In addition to Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan, a handful of the original film’s cast will return for the Freaky Friday sequel. Mark Harmon, Chad Michael Murray, Christina Vidal Mitchell, Haley Hudson, Lucille Soong, Stephen Tobolowsky, and Rosalind Chao are reprising their respective roles.
There are some new faces, too. New actors include Julia Butters, Manny Jacinto, Maitreyi Ramakrishnan, and Sophia Hammon.
The sequel will be Lindsay’s second film since her return to acting. Her last project, Falling For Christmas, aired in late 2022.
Freaky Friday 2 Release Date
The Freaky Friday sequel will premiere some time in 2025. Disney has not yet announced an exact date but given filming is under way, things are looking promising!
