Mark Zuckerberg has announced the launch of a new dating app within Facebook, one that’s designed to foster “real long-term relationships – not just hookups.”

Simply called ‘Dating’, according to Wired, the new feature will allow Facebook users to create a separate profile from their existing one, and details of who and when you’re dating won’t be made public.

“We want Facebook to be somewhere where you can start meaningful relationships,” Zuckerberg said. “We’ve designed this with privacy and safety in mind from the beginning.”

The Guardian reports that the sample profiles presented had some similarities with Tinder.

Designed to mirror the way people interact in real life, the Dating feature will have its own inbox, separate to Facebook Messenger, that only allows users to send text messages, not photos or links.

Facebook will use a unique algorithm to match potential couples, based on “dating preferences, things in common and mutual friends” according to Zuckerberg. It won’t draw from your existing friends list.

Facebook will start testing Dating later this year.
